Lawn Care Service Creates Opportunities for At-Risk Youth

April 23, 2017 - 01:01 PM

The end of the school year is fast approaching and parents are scurrying to get their children involved with camps, summer programs, and anything positive to keep their children safe and productive over the summer.

But many of our youth and their families face economic challenges that limit their opportunities for summer activities. One Penn Hills man has a solution for these families.

Sheldon Oliver, the founder of Turning Corners Youth Mentoring Association, has launched Turning Corners Lawn Care to provide at-risk youth with summer employment. Turning Corners Youth Mentoring Association is a 501c3 non- profit organization that focuses on mentoring, personal development, violence prevention, reentry, and workforce development.

Turning Corners Lawn Care was created as an effort to curb violence by replacing idle time with meaningful employment and mentorship towards our youth. Said Oliver, “It’s time for change. Something must and will be done. Our future depends on it.”

Oliver’s goal is to employ 50 at-risk youth this summer.

Turning Corners Youth Mentoring Association is seeking your help to grow Turner Corners Lawn Care. To reach as many youth as possible, they’re asking for your support.

The program is seeking donations of new and used lawn equipment. If you would like to donate, contact Sheldon Oliver at 412-513-1150.

To schedule a free estimate of your lawn, call Turning Corners Lawn Care at 412-871-8154.

Penn Hills and surrounding areas have truly found a gem in Turning Corners Youth Mentoring Association and they deserve our support.
